Application: Shingle Stacking Machine
A plant that makes roofing shingles has several machines that square up bundles of shingles as they drop off the production line. Each machine uses three cylinders: 2″ stroke Norgren cylinders with double rods. Because of the high cycle rate (15 cycles/minute) plus the abrasive grit from the shingles in the air, the cylinders were failing within five weeks. Alex Krick, the TSI sales engineer calling on the plant, recommended a more robust, but more expensive, PHD SK Series slide with a MAC 400 Series valve mounted on the cylinder for maximum speed.
The PHD slides have been running flawlessly for 14 months and when fully implemented will save the plant $68,000in replacement cylinders and downtime per year.
