PIAB's new piGRIP®
The first modular suction cup on the market

With traditional suction cups, where the lips and bellows are made of the same material, you either have to compromise on the grip or the machine handling speed. That is now history with the piGRIP® cup from Piab.

A modular suction cup that fits most machines and that can be optimized for handling almost all materials, piGRIP®'s six different lip types ensure the right hardness/softness and sealing capability for virtually any product. Combined with the firm bellows, piGRIP® is stable enough to handle faster accelerations and higher speed lifts than traditional cups.

piGRIP® Bag lip
The new bag lip design allows for bag handling speeds and accelerations never before possible in automation equipment. Beside regular plastic bags for dry food (e.g. chips) and bags filled with liquid, the new piGRIP® Bag lips have been designed to have an excellent grip on stand-up-pouches filled with liquid or dry/wet food/substances. This is the ultimate solution to avoid dropping bags and for pushing production capacity limits.

Murrelektronik MAC Module (MMM)

The Murrelektronik MAC Module (MMM) is a new and effective way to integrate MAC Valves into any Ethernet I/P network. The compact design of the MMM is a drop-in addition to MAConnect™ valve manifolds and is compatible with all MAConnect™ valves. The module is available in two models: 16 or 32 solenoid output capability.

This MMM bus node is a stand-alone device and is compatible with any PLC Master capable of communication through Ethernet I/P™ protocols.

The fully potted design of the MMM allows for operations in rugged environments and maintains the IP67 rating of the connections. Diagnostics include module status, network status, short circuit and overload protection ensuring that your installation has enough information to properly react to situations.

Stainless Steel Shock Absorbers

ACE Controls has just released its line of stainless steel shock absorbers. These shocks are ideal for industries such as food processing, medical, marine, and chemical where harsh environmental conditions can reduce the useful life of regular shocks.

For more information about these shocks or any of ACE's product offering, contact T.J. Donovan, TSI's shock absorber specialist, at 770-879-3500.

Automation Tip of the Month

3 Important Factors in Selecting a Pneumatic Valve

1. Shifting forces: In order to ensure a reliable valve, high shifting forces are required. A valve with higher forces will shift through more contamination throughout its life. How can you determine shifting forces? Speed. Higher forces result in faster speeds. Fast valve = High shifting forces = A more reliable valve.

2. Balance: In many applications, it is critical that the same result happens each time a valve shifts. A filling machine must fill bottles to the same levels. A glue dispensing gun must place a glue dot in the same place every time. A sorting machine must eject bad parts consistently. In order to do this, a valve must be repeatable at all pressure levels. This is especially important to compensate for variations in pressure during normal plant operations. This attribute is referred to as a "balanced design". Balanced design = Repeatability = A more reliable valve.

3. Orifice size: The larger the orifice in the valve, the less likely the valve is to get clogged and not function. Try looking at filter specs to see where manufacturers believe the problems start for their orifice. For instance, a 40 micron spec would indicate a larger orifice than a 5 micron spec.

Shifting forces, balance, and orifice size are all important in selecting a valve. Contact your TSI Sales Engineer to discuss these factors and to get help in selecting the right valve for your application.
