Cover Deck Latch on Perfect Binder
OEM: Heidelberg/Goss
Application: The binder selects from four different book or magazine covers for specific geographic locations. When the latch is energized, the selected cover is loaded into the binder.
Problem: OEM supplied a disposable cylinder for this application, resulting in frequent maintenance and the need to maintain excessive inventory. Also, the clevis on the cylinder failed prematurely due to high cycle rates.
MAC and PHD Solution: The single escapement replaced the cylinder clevis and OEM slide with one moving part and a design that would hold up to the side loading in the application. Result was less inventory and longer life.

Blanket Wash Valve Solution
OEM: Baldwin
Application: Blanket wash systems are used on web offset presses to automatically clean ink and paper lint off of the printing plate. Baldwin uses a fabric presoaked with solvent that is indexed and pad pressured against the print plate 10-15 cycles for each roll of paper used. The blanket wash cycle occurs each time a new roll of paper is spliced.
Problems: OEM-supplied valves often stick, don’t cycle properly, or may be undersized for the application. The air pad bladder may require 5-6 initial cycles to get a proper “swipe.”
MAC Valve Solution: A 3-station 200 Series manifold with regulators fits into the existing enclosure and allows you to swipe in one cycle and clean the blanket in six cycles.

Pusher Cylinder on Stacker
OEM: Muller-Martini
Application: The cylinder is located underneath the rotating table in the stacker. The cylinder extends to push finished, stacked, and banded magazines onto the conveyor, then retracts back to the home position to push the next completed bundle.
Problem: No space for a slide or similar actuator to address the huge side loads. The OEM-supplied cylinder fails frequently and requires an expensive rebuild kit.
PHD Solution: Special CV cylinder with extended nose and piston for added stability; special PTFE piston wear ring for support and durability. (P/N #ML 308995).

Function Valve Manifold for M1000 Press
OEM: Heidelberg/Goss
Application: Valves control impression roll, upper & lower ink forms, upper & lower water forms, upper & lower ink inductor, and upper & lower slip roller.
Problem: OEM-supplied valves were expensive, difficult to work on, and had sticking problems, resulting in scrap and quality issues.
MAC Solution: Valve manifold with one 92 Series and eight 45 Series valves.
